Phillip Van Horn design was established in 1986 and has been based on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada since 1993. The work has evolved in a manner reflecting a constant search for the particular qualities of a site’s landscape and climate, client program, the nature of materials in use and our continuing efforts toward building meaningful and livable houses expressed through form, innovative structure, and green-based environmental design.
Our goal has been to encourage a successful collaboration between designer, client and builder as a means to design and build houses that express the contemplative and inspirational character of Canada’s west coast Gulf Island landscape, the context wherein a majority of the work occurs.
